Depth Imaging Geophysicist (FWI Specialist)
Houston,TX

About the Role

We are seeking a Depth Imaging Geophysicist with strong expertise in Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) and velocity model building.

In this role, you will work on technically challenging datasets, delivering high-resolution depth imaging solutions that directly support drilling decisions and field development strategies. This position is ideal for a senior geophysicist who thrives in complex environments and brings a rigorous, detail-oriented approach to imaging and model building.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute FWI-driven velocity model building workflows (reflection and/or refraction)
    • Integrate FWI results into depth imaging workflows (KPSDM, RTM)
    • Perform high-quality QC of velocity models, gathers, residuals, and final images
    • Ensure geological consistency throughout the imaging process
    • Work on complex offshore datasets, including deepwater environments such as the Gulf of Mexico
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver results aligned with client objectives
    • Contribute to workflow improvements and best practices in depth imaging

 

Required Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Geophysics, Geology, or a related field
    • Strong hands-on experience with FWI in production environments (2D and/or 3D)
    • Proven experience in depth model building and depth imaging workflows
    • Solid expertise in seismic data QC and interpretation-driven validation
    • Experience working on offshore projects
    • Ability to work independently at a senior technical level
    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with onshore FWI workflows
    • Experience with multi-parameter FWI
    • Familiarity with industry imaging platforms
